I went shopping this morning and as walked to the dairy aisle I picked up our favorite ice cream (yeah, I know it’s winter but we still love ice cream anyway). I noticed this a few months ago but I can’t wait to mention it here. When I first saw the size difference from how it used to be, I thought my eyes were fooling me but it can’t be. The product is actually smaller this time. And just before Christmas, I bought a few of our favorite Terry’s chocolate orange and I was surprised again, what the heck is going on? These products are shrinking! Oh yes, yes, the economy slump. But the price did not change. Well, at least I’m still thankful to see that when you buy a jar of mayonnaise or peanut butter, it’s full to the top. In the Philippines where I grew up, products like these (ice cream, jam, etc.) you’ll see just 3/4 of the jar. I call that cheating. But that was very common and I’m not sure if there were even improvements, I left the country 15 years ago. But I really miss the Philippine delicacies that we always have there. Unfortunately most of the ingredients are not available in our local oriental store.
So, that’s my rant for today. How about you, have you noticed any shrinking food products so far?
