Gibo in, Bayani out; Choosing the Administration's Standard Bearer

Finally the Lakas-Kampi-CMD national executive committee has chosen Defense Secretary Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro as the administration candidate for the 2010 presidential election; but  MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando insists he should be the one endorsed instead as the party’s standard bearer.

Now that they broke his heart Bayani Fernando has more reasons to leave the party. He declared earlier to say “goodbye” to his party mates should the national executive committee of  Lakas-Kampi-CMD chose his rival Teodoro Cojuanco Teodoro Jr. as the standard bearer. Where will Mr. Metro Guwapo, who believes he has the vision and political will to transform this undisciplined and politically corrupted nation go? Who cares? As far as Eduardo Ermita is concerned it does not matter anymore what Bayani says. He is entitled to his own opinion.

Of course there are other parties where Bayani could land and shed away those tears of desperation for having been junked by the party in favor of a young blood, a bar topnocher and Harvard-educated, who is believed to have more chances of winning than him. But who will adopt a castaway like Bayani? Will the KBL extend and open hand to him as both Bayani and Madam Imelda have penchants of beautifying Metro-Manila and the rest of the country probably? But this even more of a wishful thinking that a reality as of now.

Let’s go back to the unknown Gibo Teodoro, the chosen one who is groomed to be Gloria’s successor of the throne of Gloria.  He lacks the popularity of his cousin Noynoy Aquino, it’s a tough job for the administration party to make Gibo Teodoro more popular to the voters. But what is their huge political machinery and of course money doing? Popularity rating is not a problem as the administration people believe, things will change as candidates start filing their candidacy.

Likewise Teodoro who speaks fluent Ilokano can easily court votes from the Solid North (if it is still exists today) and can count as much as 5-7 million votes for him come election time; he has a good fighting  chance as Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile believes.

Should he win, what will a Gibo Teodoro be as a president of the Philippines? He want to be identified with the likes of Ramos and Magsaysay. Which means his administration is expected to end decades long insurgency problems, aggressive stance to improve the economy, and promoting the welfare and interest of the common tao.

Good luck na lang kay para kay Secretary Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro. To MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando naman, better luck next time.
