Hungary, Serbia establish tourism working group

Hungary and Serbia established a tourism working group to boost visitor numbers, cooperate on European Union programs and support Serbia’s European integration, Municipal Affairs Ministry state secretary Miklós Kovács said in Szeged, near Hungary’s border with Serbia.

Of the 39,554,000 visitors to Hungary last year, just 33,360 came from Serbia, spending about 71,000 guest nights at commercial accommodations.

Some 15,000 Hungarian tourists visited Serbia in 2008, spending 17,000 guest nights, according to Serbian data.

Some €16.6 million in cross-border development funding is available to Hungary and Serbia until 2010.
